Stephansdom South Tower or “medieval 343 stairs”

Vienna’s 1st District or “1. Bezirk” is certainly something special. It is city’s central District, the crossroad of its excellent transportation system (“Wiener Lines”), legislative focal point, a place with most luxury shopping areas and the historic core of the city.

If you’re in the mood for a really special combination of “medieval spirit”, a magnificent view and a jogging endeavor – Stephansdom’s “South Tower” is a place for you.

It’s not quite obvious where the entrance is. To find it, when you’re looking at St. Stephen Cathedral main entrance, go to the right. There you’ll find the entrance and pay the fee (€ 5,00 for adults). Then you’ll free to start a rise with 343 stairs inside a relatively tight and dark spiral.

At about three-fourths of the ascent, the first reward for your effort comes and also a place where you can rest for a short break. You’ll walk into a relatively roomy space with a high ceiling where in the past the “Pummerin” or the biggest bell in Stephansdom has been located. It has been cast three hundred years ago of captured Turkish cannons.

Upon overcoming the 343 stairs and reaching the height of 72 meters (tower itself is 136,4 meter high) you’ll feel happy to have reached the top. There you’re awarded by a beautiful view of the city from the bird’s perspective. Don’t forget you’re standing at the highest point built already in medieval Vienna.

You’ll find more information at the official “St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna” Site at: http://www.stephanskirche.at/index.jsp?langid=2&menuekeyvalue=27

Body shop – love to visit this shop in Vienna

As often as we get to Vienna I love to have a stop in my favorite shop – Body shop. It’s not only that I love their products, but it also turned out that they fit best with my skin. So, that is also why, I get out of this shop every time with a bag full of products.

When I started to use their products, I couldn’t get around the history of the company and their aims. Their story started in Brighton, England in 1976. Where the founder Dame Anita Roddick began mixing her own products and infusing them with a new idea. They take care in sourcing the best suppliers globally for all their products and use strict ethical guidelines when choosing a supplier, while their products are made in several countries around the globe.

My favorite shop in Vienna is the one in the first district. I always love to shop there, because the store is large and it offers a variety of different products. The staff there is friendly and always willing to help.
